Platea Madrid
Platea Madrid is a gourmet food hall housed in a former cinema comprising 6000sqm and combining gastronomy by some of Spain’s best chefs and food from all corners of the world with music, theater, performing arts, demonstrations, lectures, workshops, letters, magic, cabaret and micro-theater.
Platea advertise themselves as the “biggest gastronomic & leisure centre in Europe .. the only place where a huge stage meets the best Spanish and international gastronomy made by Michelin-star chefs. An amazing 6000sqm design space that holds up to 12 restaurants that will take your breath away.”
The old cinema is located in the Plaza de Colón, in the heart of Madrid, and can welcome more than a thousand visitors at once spread over its five floors with bars and restaurants and a video screen above a performance stage.
Dining options include Mexican, Peruvian, Italian and Asian, as well as Michelin-starred cuisine from top restaurateurs Paco Roncero (La Terraza del Casino, Casino do Madrid), Pepe Solla (Casa Solla) and Marcos Morán (Casa Gerardo, Asturias) Ramón Freixa (Ramón Freixa), who have six Michelin stars between them. Renowned cocktail theorist Diego Cabrera serves elaborate drinks from behind theLa Cabrera bar as aerialists perform and a live band plays on the stage overlooking Plateo’s patrons.
The interior of Platea Madrid has been redesigned by renowned architect Lázaro Rosa Violán. The reputed interior was inspired by the aesthetics of the 40s and 50s to combine perfectly lights, environment and dining areas, giving each its own identity and at the same time achieving an aesthetic coherence. On the first floor is Freixa’s restaurant Arriba, and on the second floor Cabrera’s cocktail bar El Palco; both with great views of the main level stage.
The stage of the old theater remains, which retains its essence of theater yet has been transformed into a space dubbed ChefsLab; a multipurpose space for concerts, monologues, projections or live music. Also on the main level and surrounding the stage are different food stands offering gourmet products. On the two levels below you will find all the different restaurants with tapas, mediterranean and international food and on the top floor Club Platea hosts private parties and events.
Platea Madrid perfectly blends culinary leisure and entertainment to suit any budget, with a great variety of dishes at the many different bars like octopus, oysters, sandwiches, cakes, tortillas at reasonable prices whilst on the other hand top notch restaurant Arriba offers a more upmarket opportunity to taste the specialties of two Michelin starred chef Ramón Freixa.
The entertainment program varies: La Platea Soul Music Band, Aerial Dance, Bossa Nova, Latin Music, Girl Havana – and from 11pm Platea picks up the pace with the best dj’s and videos; so eat, enjoy great and exotic cocktails, have fun, all without moving from your spot.
