Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Type of Cuisine: Haute cuisine
2 Michelin-starred restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London is a lovely venue that offers a menu that revisits British traditional and even historical food and reinvents these in a magical way. Heston Blumenthal on then name ‘Dinner’: “In the past, the main meal -dinner-was eaten at midday, before it got too dark. But affordable candles and, later, gaslight saw dinner shift. By the mid-1800s people were dining later. Even today, depending where you are in the British Isles, ‘dinner’ might be served at lunchtime, suppertime or, indeed, dinnertime! This made ‘Dinner’ the natural choice for its typically British quirky history and linguistic playfulness.’

Shochu Lounge

Located beneath landmark Japanese restaurant Roka, the sexy subterranean Shochu Lounge serves Japanese influenced cocktails and Shochu, a popular vodka-like distilled spirit, dating from the 14th century. Often overlooked in favour of saké, its more widespread counterpart, shochu is here used in healthy tonics and cocktails. A shot of ‘Hard Wood’ shochu tonic is another speciality and a very effective digestif. This extremely expensive shot is laced with the natural aphrodisiac Bois Bande. The full menu from Roka, the award winning restaurant upstairs, is available.
